A look inside ISS


Hey Explorers !


Lets go onboard the ISS and look into some fascinating facts that are shared by Astronauts.

But first I have something to share, a beautiful time-lapse of ISS around the Earth.

Lets get back to some exciting Space & ISS facts !
  • Astronauts on ISS witness 16 sunrises & 16 sunsets everyday; one every 90 mins.
  • ISS is the most expensive object ever built at $150 billion.
  • A sample of Sir Isaac Newton's apple tree was sent to ISS to defy gravity :)
  • ISS is a  house for Astronauts & Cosmonauts that travels at 17,500 mph.
  • Astronauts become two inches taller in space.
  • On ISS, the water treatment plant is so advance that it recycles & treats all water waste including urine & turns it into drinking water.
  •  Russians are called Cosmonauts & others - Astronauts.
  • ISS is about the  size of a FIFA football field.
  • Sun appears white, while you are in space.
  • First living mammals to orbit moon were tortoises, they were sent to test a Russian Space Probe.
  •  While being  in a spacesuit you can't whistle.
  • The  farthest distance from Earth an astronaut has ever travelled was during the Apollo 13 emergency. 
  • On ISS everyone has to exercise 2 hours daily.
  • A boomerang will return to you in absence of gravity on ISS !
  • The total wt of ISS is 925,000 pounds.
  •  Astronauts onboard ISS can vote !
  • From August 10, 2015 astronauts are eating food grown on ISS.

  • While floating in lunar orbit, Astronaut AL Worden was 2,235 miles around 3,600 k away from his companion astronauts, making him the most isolated human being ever.
  • The ISS is constantly in the state of free fall, same for the astronauts inside.


  • Astronauts often lose their fingernails after conducting spacewalks.
  • From ISS night & day on Earth appears to last only 45 mins.
  • The longest spacewalk ever lasted 9 hours, & the preparations & post spacewalk procedures takes it to 12.5 hours.
  • Russian cosmonaut Valery Polyakov spent nearly 438 consecutive days aboard the Mir Space Station, & still holds the record for longest single human spaceflight.
  • All people aboard the ISS must know English & Russian.
  • SpaceX's crew Dragon Demo-2 became the first private mission to take astronauts to ISS - NASA astronauts Douglas Hurley & Robert Behnken.
  • In oct, 2021 a Russian actress & director visited ISS to shoot the first film completely made on ISS.
  • William Shatner; our star Trek star became the oldest person in space at 90 years & 205 days when he travelled on a space tourist sub-orbital flight on Blue Origin's New Shephard on oct 12, 2021.
  • Blue Origins fist flight carrying paying customers broke 4 world records. - Oldest person in space, youngest person in space, first sub-orbital flight with paying  customers & first siblings in space at same time.

  • Untill now more than 250 individuals have been on the International Space Station, including the expedition 66 astronauts; currently onboard ISS.
  •  & more than 600 individuals from 37 countries have been to space.
  • There has been astronauts on ISS science Nov 2, 2000.
  • There are 13 people on ISS while writing this blog :) { quite crowded }
